Roles and Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Accounting
Own the preparation and delivery of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
Maintain the general ledger and oversee all accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
Manage the chart of accounts and ensure it accurately reflects the company's project-based business model, including proper allocation of development costs by project
Oversee capitalization policies for development costs and ensure appropriate treatment of costs incurred pre- and post-LNTP across the project portfolio
Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to support annual audits and tax filings, including any partnership or pass-through reporting related to tax equity structures
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial reporting and tax obligations, including those arising under the Inflation Reduction Act with respect to transferable tax credits
Project Finance and Development Accounting
Maintain detailed project-level financial tracking from inception through LNTP and sale, including all development costs such as interconnection deposits, land control payments, permitting fees, and soft costs
Manage the financial close process for project sales, coordinating with legal counsel, buyers, and counterparties to ensure accurate and timely settlement and revenue recognition
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Cash Management
Lead the annual budgeting process for corporate expenses and overhead, working closely with the teams across the organization to build a bottom-up budget tied to the project pipeline
Prepare rolling cash flow forecasts that reflect the timing of development expenditures, interconnection deposits, expected LNTP sale proceeds, and tax credit transfer receipts
Monitor actual versus budgeted development spend by project and flag variances to senior management promptly
Controls, Compliance, and Process
Design, implement, and maintain a robust internal controls framework appropriate to the size and risk profile of the business
Establish and enforce accounting policies and procedures, with particular attention to revenue recognition on project sales, cost capitalization, and intercompany transactions
Maintain organized and audit-ready financial records for all active, sold, and archived projects
Support due diligence processes for project buyers, lenders, and investors by preparing and organizing financial data rooms
Team Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration
Build and manage the finance and accounting team as the company scales, including hiring, training, and performance management of accounting staff
Serve as the primary financial liaison to the development, legal, origination, and asset management teams, translating project activity into financial impacts on a real-time basis
Support board-level financial presentations as required
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
CPA designation strongly preferred
MBA or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline is a plus
Experience
Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior financial role
Direct experience in renewable energy development, with community solar experience strongly preferred
Demonstrated understanding of the development lifecycle from site control through LNTP and project sale, including the accounting treatment of each stage
Experience managing project-level accounting across a multi-project portfolio with varying stages of development
Technical Skills
Solid working knowledge of GAAP, with particular depth in revenue recognition (ASC 606) and capitalization of development costs
Experience with Acumatica accounting software or similar platforms; experience implementing or upgrading systems in a growing company is a plus
Familiarity with project management and development tracking methodologies used in the renewable energy industry

Roles and Responsibilities
Legal Strategy and Compliance:
Develop and implement legal strategies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing solar energy projects.
Monitor and stay informed on industry-specific legal and regulatory developments.
Collaborate with project development, operations, maintenance, and asset management teams to provide legal counsel and advice in the normal course of business, ensuring alignment with company goals.
Contract Negotiation and Drafting:
Review, draft, and negotiate various agreements, including MIPAs and other project asset acquisition agreements, project joint ventures, debt and tax equity transactions, land leases, PILOT agreements, EPC contracts, equipment procurement and other agreements for project operations, maintenance (O&M) and asset management.
Prepare general commercial contracts for professional and consulting services, master services, third-party engagements, and non-disclosure agreements.
Work closely with relevant team members to ensure that all contractual obligations are met and understood.
Oversee the legal aspects of real estate transactions, including due diligence, lease option, leasing or land acquisition agreements, easements, access and title issues.
External Counsel and Litigation Management:
Coordinate with external legal counsel on disputes or legal proceedings involving the company
Manage external counsel engagements, budgeting and spend, .
Corporate Governance:
Provide legal support for corporate governance and authority matters, including board meetings and resolutions, entity management and filings.
What skills and experience you'll need:
An active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in energy project finance, contract negotiations and legal issues related to solar project or renewable energy project development, finance, construction and operations.
A solid understanding of energy and corporate regulatory compliance and enforcement.
Excellent research, analysis, and writing skills.
Ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders effectively.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members in a remote environment.

Position Overview
Lightstar Renewables is seeking an experienced Development Manager to lead the development of solar PV projects, with a primary focus on our Illinois and Maryland portfolios. This individual will be responsible for advancing projects from early stage through non-ministerial permitting, coordinating internal and external stakeholders, and proactively resolving the commercial, permitting, interconnection, real estate, and community-related issues that affect project success.
The ideal candidate has at least two years of renewable energy project development experience and direct familiarity with the Illinois and Maryland markets. This is an excellent opportunity for a resourceful, commercially minded developer who enjoys taking ownership of projects and working across multiple disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of renewable energy projects in Illinois and Maryland from early-stage development through notice to proceed or other investment milestones.
Lead site-control activities, including coordination of leases, easements, title work, surveys, and other real estate matters. *No origination of sites required.
Manage local, state, and federal permitting and entitlement processes.
Coordinate interconnection applications, studies, agreements, utility communications, and required payments.
Support project participation in applicable state incentive and community solar programs, including Illinois Shines and Maryland community solar programs.
Oversee consultants supporting environmental studies, civil engineering, land use, permitting, interconnection, and other development activities.
Build productive relationships with landowners, local officials, utilities, community members, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
Work closely with engineering, construction, finance, legal, policy, origination, and asset-management teams.
Identify project risks early and develop practical strategies to mitigate them.
Prepare project materials for internal reviews, investment decisions, financing, acquisitions, and project sales.
Maintain accurate and timely project information within the company’s project-management and reporting systems.
Support project diligence, contracting, financing, and transaction activities as needed.
Be proficient in regulatory and market developments that may affect projects in Illinois and Maryland.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
At least two years of project development experience in solar PV renewable energy project development.
Experience managing multiple projects, workstreams, deadlines, and external consultants simultaneously.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to identify risks, solve problems, and advance projects with autonomy.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to understand and communicate technical, commercial, legal, and regulatory information.
Willingness to travel periodically to project sites and stakeholder meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct renewable energy development experience in Illinois and Maryland.
Experience developing community solar, distributed-generation solar, utility-scale solar, or energy-storage projects.
Familiarity with Illinois Shines, Maryland’s community solar market, and related state incentive programs.
Experience with utility interconnection processes, local land-use approvals, permitting, site control, environmental diligence, and community engagement.
Experience advancing projects through late-stage development, financing, acquisition, sale, or construction readiness.
Existing relationships with utilities, consultants, local officials, or industry participants in Illinois or Maryland.

The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned projects, maintain a clear understanding of their critical paths, communicate risks early, and consistently move projects toward key development and investment milestones. They will be equally comfortable working through detailed project issues and collaborating with senior leadership on broader portfolio strategy.
